Detailed History

In 1993, I graduated from Mount Douglas Senior Secondary in Victoria, B.C. after 13 years in the French Immersion Program and having completed the French Advanced Placement program. In high school I excelled in most subjects ranging from Computer Assisted Drafting to various sciences winning a $1000 Provincial scholarship for my achievements.

Growing up on the water in Victoria, I’ve always had an interest in the natural world, and I decided to follow a path studying biology. After one and a half years in a University Transfer Program for sciences at Camosun College in Victoria, B.C. (1994-1995), I started my undergraduate program at the University of Victoria (UVic) in September 1995.

I was accepted into the Biology Co-op program thus allowing me to gain field skills and experience in conjunction with my classroom education. I completed 3 co-op work terms providing me with excellent hands-on experience (please see my employment history for detailed descriptions of my roles during these work terms). I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology at UVic in May 1999 with distinction.

Over the next five years, I continued to gain experience and knowledge while traveling around B.C. and throughout the world working in the adventure tourism/hospitality industries. Further training included the PADI Divemaster (Feb. 2000) and PADI Dive Instructor (May 2002) courses, a tourism staff course on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia (May 2002), various hospitality related programs including the Food Safe and the Responsible Service of Alcohol courses, First Aid and C.P.R. at an industrial level (Ocupational First Aid Level 3), adventure sport guiding courses (including snorkeling/diving, canoeing, ATV/snowmobile, mountain biking, hiking, and zip-line tours), and various computer training courses.

In 2005, I returned to Victoria, B.C. and enrolled in two courses in the Hospitality and Tourism Program at Camosun College. These were Marketing for Tourism (Winter 2005) and Environmental Stewardship (Winter 2006) where I achieved top marks.

Having graduated with Distinction from BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology) with a Diploma of Technology in Marketing Management (Entrepreneurship), I have developed business skills that compliment my BSc. in Biology and my years of employment experience.
