Paul Shorthouse has been working with the GLOBE Foundation (www.globe.ca) since March 2009 as the organization's Director of Special Projects and as Conference Program Manager for the Foundation’s internationally-recognized GLOBE Series.

As Director of Special Projects, Paul has been involved in managing a number of comprehensive projects on the green economy in both British Columbia (see www.bcgreeneconomy.com) and Newfoundland & Labrador, identifying provincial low-carbon strengths, opportunities and challenges, and forging sustainable economic development strategies in order to promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, increase investment, and stimulate job growth.

As Conference Program Manager for the GLOBE Series, Paul is responsible for all conference programming and speaker management for this international summit on the 'business of the environment', considered one of the largest events of its type in the world (see www.globeseries.com). In 2010, the GLOBE event attracted close to 10,000 participants from 50 countries and nearly 2,000 conference delegates – of which approximately 800 were company CEOs and / or Presidents.

In 2011, Paul helped launch the inaugural GLOBE Latin America Conference in Costa Rica, bringing together business leaders and sustainability experts from around the region to address issues related to low-carbon economic development including clean energy, sustainable cities and transporation, water, finance and investment, carbon management, and corporate sustainability (see www.globe2011.com).

Paul’s other work with the GLOBE Foundation has included researching and writing articles for the GLOBE-Net Environmental News website (see www.globe-net.com) and updating GLOBE’s Primer on Climate Change and Carbon Markets, consolidating multiple information sources to produce a comprehensive report on the subject.

Paul was also an active member of two City of Vancouver External Adivsory Committees on 'Climate Leadership' and the 'Green Economy', working closely with the City and the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) in their efforts to make Vancouver the Greenest City in the World by 2020.

Paul has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria and a Diploma of Technology in Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Prior to his time with the GLOBE Foundation, Paul worked as an eco-tour guide and as a SCUBA dive biologist and instructor in Canada, Thailand, the Philippines, and Australia.
